It’s been 17 months since The Duchy opened! Here’s the latest news as of January, 2008.

- All of our taxiways and roads are paved, the entire development has been planted with grass, and our attractive stone entrance is complete with planters, trees and shrubs.
- In spite of the unusual drought this summer and fall, our lake is full.
- One residence is finished and four more are scheduled to start in the next 60 days.
- Our lot owners are the nicest group of folks you are likely to meet: scientists, airline pilots, attorneys, information systems specialists, dentists, an air traffic controller, a superior court judge, a commercial fisherman, a flight instructor, a contractor, a stockbroker, and other people who are enjoying retirement.
- Planes that will be based at The Duchy include J-3s, Cessna 172s and 182s, four different models of RVs, a Cirrus 22, a couple of Bonanzas, a handful of home-builts, and a Twin Comanche.
- We have a 680 acre public lake for recreation, picnicking, boating and fishing just 2.5 miles down the road from us (or only two miles if you like hiking through the woods). From our entrance to Interstate 40 is only 7 miles by paved road. We are a mile-and-a-half from a convenience store open seven days a week. Alamance County provides us emergency ambulance and fire protection.
- Negotiations are underway to provide a highly qualified A&P/IA mechanic together with a shop adjacent to the airstrip.
- Taxes at The Duchy are $ .68 per $ 100.00 of valuation; valuations have been running about 60% of market value.
- Duchy Lot Owners Association dues have been set at $ 1,000.00 annually. That covers all road and airstrip maintenance, mowing, seeding, repairs, insurance, common area taxes, legal expense, and office expense.
- Our future property values are protected by the most comprehensive set of protective covenants of any airpark. You may read them here.
- We have arranged financing with BB&T at market rates with only 10% down, and with no appraisal required. Over half of our lot purchasers have availed themselves of this source of financing.
- We still have lots of deer, birds, trees, and quiet.
